We are looking for a GIS Specialist with a geography or geoscience background to join our highly motivated team of editors, developers, and data scientists as part of our Publications Group. As part of our team, you will use your experience with GIS and understanding of basic geographic principles to provide support to Survey scientists in the use of GIS software and the implementation of GIS solutions for a variety of science, data management, and data publication needs. This will include publishing map services to our online interactive Geologic Information Portal, developing new stand-alone interactive map experiences, supporting mobile GIS and natural hazard emergency response data needs, and working with others in our team to help our scientists develop and publish new database schemas.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography or other related field,
AND 3 years of experience in the following areas:
- Using ArcGIS Pro
- Working with Esri GIS solutions, including publishing map services and developing
online map experiences and apps using Esri tools
- Designing and managing database schemas
OR an equivalent combination of education and (or) experience.
- Experience in explaining complex topics orally and in writing to a wide range of technical and non-technical audiences.
- Working knowledge of geographic map projections, datums, and coordinate systems.
- Commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
- Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and public records retention and requests are followed.
